Pictures of today's ride to
Cecil, Oregon.
There's gas in Heppner (and Lexington) but it's 183 miles to the next gas in
Praire City. There is off brand fuel in Sumpter and a Pacific Pride station in
Ukiah, but if you don't have a big tank or carry extra fuel, the Blue Mountain
Scenic Byway may not be for you.
About 40 miles from Heppner and 60 miles from Sumpter is the little burb of
Ukiah, Oregon. Nice people. Pretty decent meal at the Thicket Cafe. Not much
else here in town. A Post Office and a Pacific Pride fuel station.
The main idea for this ride was to make Sumpter, Oregon the end destination and to
build a loop ride around it. When we rode by Granite, Oregon it looked like a
tiny little place up on a hill.... and not worth time time or effort to check out.
We'll probably go back again seeing as how the Sumpter destination turned out to be
a bust.
There is a narrow Gauge steam railroad that runs from Sumpter to McEwen, Oregon.
Also a gold dredge that looks like it might be interesting. Sumpter has an annual
"flea market" on Memorial Day weekend but ..famous last words here.... Sumpter is
literally in the middle of nowhere so how many people will show up for a "flea market"?
50? 100? How about *THOUSANDS*!!!!!! The place was packed with fucktards by the
time we got there at ~ 10:30. So I just rode on by.... we'll do this one another day.
