The old guy who lives here came out and talked with us for a while. Interesting
guy and knew a lot about the history of Shaniko. 83 years old so whatever knowledge
he doesn't pass on will be lost forever. This house was built circa 1900 and is in
pretty good shape for it's age and mostly authentic. He spends Winters in Arizona
as an RV park host.

The guy we talked to added some insight into the situation with the Millionaire
who owns the Shaniko Hotel and all the drama surrounding it. The short story is that
the locals want to try to raise enough money to buy the hotel and operate it as a
tourist draw. The current owner is apparently a "my way or the highway" character
who has waaaaaay too much money and wants to own his very own town.... to the
detriment of anyone who gets in his way.

That old guy we talked to said that the old house in the boondocks was an old
bordello that catered to guys who worked or traveled on the trains here way back when.

Shaniko has had city water for a long time, piped in from a reservoir. Here's
a fire hydrant built in Portland way back a long time ago. When you're a town
in the high plains desert, you need a really good fire department and LOTS of water!

Stopped for a quick picture in Kent, Oregon.
