The upper Forest Road 39 to Upper Imnaha Road is still closed due to
snow. I talked to a guy yesterday who came through on an off-road
motorcycle who said he came across a car that was hightopped and
stuck there. Luckily, that's not the road I generally take. I
find the Upper Imnaha Road from Imnaha to FR39 to be much more
scenic even though it's a dirt road and not paved. The road is
in decent condition most of the way so that's the route I take.
It was a mostly dry and pleasant day. No need for a jacket and I
was only sprinkled on a few times. Nothing bad enough to interfere
with my photography
The last 7 or so miles on this road is VERY slow going. Major potholes
and many of them. Too many to avoid so you just have to slog your way
through them at a very slow speed. And even then your shocks are going
to take a beating.
Came across a few locals but no tourists that I could tell. Friday
morning (early) on Memorial Day weekend.
Enterprise gave me this Mustang. An ok car that got great mileage and
ran fine. I didn't want to crap up the Green Hornet and I figure the
money I saved on fuel pretty much covered the rental. Turned out to
be a good move as the road was very dusty and the lower end was lunar
crater sized potholes that likely would have blown out the shocks on the
Challenger.
They had an amazing Scat Pack Challenger to rent for $150/day that was
a bit too rich for me plus the fuel cost would have been huge. Probably
a dream to drive though. And seeing as how the economy is going to
crater any day now and global starvation seems likely, skimping for
whatever time remains in my life seems downright foolish now.
