Pretty foggy but overall a nice day. Dry and warmish. Got a few
good pictures, I think. Tried to make it to Lava Canyon but it was
getting late. The road started getting snowy past Ape Cave and by
the time I got to Marble Mountain it was much too deep to try
going the rest of the way in a rental with no snow tires and no chains.
This was the closest vantage point to Mount St Helens. About a mile
before the entrance to Marble Mountain. The road to Lava Canyon was
still open (surprisingly) but the snow was getting really deep by that
point. The chances of being able to get the rental car the rest of the
way were about zero.
They've done a LOT of clear cutting since I was last up here, 5 or so years
ago.
