We were out this way last year with the Dilligafs.
Here's some pictures of
our 2010 Original Easyrider®
Shaniko, Oregon ride.
More pictures of
Maupin and Shaniko taken on our 2010 ride there.
And here's
more pictures of today's ride.
Left early since this will be a long-ish ride. Sunny and nice but a little
chilly on the Interstate 84 that early in the morning. Stopped at Cascade Locks for
gas and got there just in time to see the sternwheeler getting set to leave.
Sacajawea at the Cascade Locks, Oregon Visitors Center/
Came across this nice little park in the middle of nowhere, just North of Moro,
Oregon. DeMoss Springs Park.
I've been to Shaniko, Oregon several times over the years. Even though it's a ghost
town, it seems like there is always something new to see. Here's the Shaniko school.
There are a lot of old buildings, cars, trucks, wagons, stagecoaches and so on in
Shaniko. Here's a '60s era fire truck.
Here's what I looked like at that same location in September, 2005
The gas station in Shaniko is closed and is for sale (July, 2011). Nearest gas is
Maupin (one station, 26 miles), The Dalles (60 miles), Bend (60 miles).

There's more pictures of this Shaniko ride
HERE.
Bakeoven road from Shaniko to Maupin is a nice, scenic ride. On a clear day like
today, you can see many mountains.
Stopped at Government Camp, at the foot of Mount Hood, on the way home.
Not bad, huh? :)
