We went to Munra Point on November 26, 2011 and got within 650' of the summit.
We (I) decided to turn back when we found ourselves facing a 40-50' vertical
rock. There were sufficient (albeit small) ledges which would have been sufficient
for climing this thing.... I was much more concerned about being able to get back
down than I was about climbing to the top. Getting as far as we did was trying..
not difficult so much as just slow going. One mis-step and you're pretty much history.

This first visit was intended to be just a scouting mission anyway. Now that we
know the way, we'll be back with the right equipment to finish this hike.

GETTING THERE: We followed Scott's directions in his Curious Gorge book. The directions
you'll find on the Internet are also pretty good. The trail is fairly easy to follow
except that some hikers prefer to take shortcuts (bad for the environment) rather than
follow the switchbacks. There were several confusing forks but you mostly want to go
up, up, up. You could easily miss the trailhead to the left just before Moffett Creek
if you aren't looking for it. But other than that, just stay on the Gorge Trail #400
and resist all urges to go up any of the many trails you'll see to the left.

Take the Bonneville Dam exit 40 off of 1-84. Park at the Wahclella Falls lot (NW
Forest Pass required). Go back up the road and turn left onto the old historic
Columbia River highway. This bridge will be right in front of you.

Just past the bridge you'll turn left at this sign (top left) onto the Gorge
Trail #400.

After about a mile, just before you get to Moffett Creek, there will be a trail
to your left that goes straight up. Look for this "trail not maintained" sign.

As you can see, this is an easy fork to miss.

You get some nice views of Hamilton Mountain and the town of North Bonneville,
Washington.

And the Columbia River looking West.

We went as far as the top of the rock shelf up ahead and along the tree line.
There was more climbing ahead and figured it was safer to turn back and return
when we were better equipped.
