We were out THIS WAY last June.

And SEVERAL WEEKS prior to that.

We arrived at Multnomah Falls fairly early the day after Christmas. Both parking lots
were pretty much deserted so we opted to take advantage of the people free Trailhead
to take a pile of pictures. We then decided to go up the Larch Mountain trail that
runs to the left of Multnomah Falls and do the loop over to Wahkeenah in the reverse
direction from the way most trail guides would have you go. This worked out pretty
well since we didn't see many people until the last couple of miles coming back down
the Wahkeenah Trail.

Multnomah Falls

Here's a sign that's a joke. Every Multnomah County Liberal Commie Socialist Obama
loving "Occupy" nitwit scofflaw was up here with their stupid dog...OFF THE LEASH. This
so-called "leash law" is not enforced at all, much less "strictly"... and if you say
something to these dipzoids about it, they give you crap like *YOU'RE* the idiot
in the conversation. They need to make it legal to just shoot these fucktards on sight.

This trail has been around for quite some time....dedicated in 1915.

You can get pretty close to the upper part of Multnomah Falls. It's 1 1/4 miles
from Multnomah Lodge to the top of the falls viewpoint.

Continuing on the Larch Mountain trail # 441 you'll see that the Perdition Trail
that goes to Wahkeenah Falls is closed. Looks like it's been closed for quite some
time. You can continue up the Larch Mountain trail... there will be an opportunity
to go West before long (or continue on to Larch Mountain if you like).

Weisendanger Falls isn't all that impressive....

Ecola Falls is pretty nice though.

About two miles from Multnomah Lodge you'll come to the junction of the Wahkeenah
trail #420. Turn right here. You'll be heading West and not be seeing much in the
way of interesting scenery for the next couple of miles.

You'll come to multiple forks in the trail. Going right (or straight ahead) will
take you to Wahkeenah Falls. Go left, up a rather steep incline towards Devils Rest.
The signs at this location are very good so not much opportunity to get lost.

Just before you get to the actual Devils Rest (which is pretty boring IMHO) you'll
see an unmarked but well traveled spur off to the right. It leads to a nice viewpoint
and a dandy spot to have lunch before heading back.

On a clear day and if you have a camera that you actually know how to use, you can
get some nice views of Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Table, Hamilton and so on.

On the way back down you'll go straight, following the signs for the Wahkeenah trail
and trailhead. Along the way you'll pass by Fairy Falls which is one of our favorites.

The obligatory stop at the Lemmon's viewpoint.

Wahkeenah Falls.

And back to Multnomah Falls. A very nice hike and probably the last one for 2011.
It's supposed to pour buckets for the next week or more starting this afternoon.
Really wanted to get at least one more easy, romantic, magical waterfalls hike in
before 2012 comes along...
