We were out to
Horsethief Butte just a couple of weeks ago.
Pretty amazing day. Couldn't have asked for better weather. The Instructors and
Volunteers were nothing short of amazing. I don't know when I've ever learned so much
in such a short timeframe.
Here I am rappelling off of the highest route of the day. It was no small chore
getting up here.....
Dani, one of the really experienced climbers, manned the anchor position for the
most difficult climbing and rappel pitch of the day. Among other things, she was
really committed to making today a memorable event for everyone including taking
"yearbook" type pictures as each of us headed back down.
This is John Godino our team leader. We are really fortunate to have such an
accomplished climber heading up our team! John's climbing resume is beyond amazing.
David Byrne (right) is our co-leader. I like Dave a lot...a very mellow guy who, like me,
is all about getting the most out of a journey.
That's Peter, John and Sandra on the left.
On day one of BCEP, it was said that during this course, we would make a few
life-long friendships with fellow students and instructors. One of my favorite
peers is Seth (left) , who is an emergency room MD at Meridian Park. Seth is a REALLY
nice guy. Tom (right) works for the City of Portland.
All of the Instructors and Volunteers are great. Probably my favorite is Matt (left)
who is going through the Mazama Intermediate Climbing School (ICS). Part of that
curriculum is helping to lead a new BCEP class. Matt is an amazing climber and
has given me a lot of great information, advice and tips. And, like many others
on Team 3, he is a just, plain very nice guy.
Every organization has someone like April (right) who keeps things rolling along.
Cascade Microtech would come to a screeching, grinding halt without Julie and I
suspect that the same thing would happen to the Mazamas if April wasn't there.
April is everywhere, all the time, taking care of everything. We are incredibly
fortunate to have her on our team.
Amy is an interesting case. To look at her, it would be easy to dismiss her as
a whispy cupcake. But she has an amazing resume and has done some incredible things
in her life. She runs a home cleaning service and has done an incredible job
branding it and herself. She also has a LOT in common with Julie, personality-wise
so it was natural that I would like and respect her. I'm guessing that Amy is a LOT
tougher than I am.
Nice view out here.
