This is another Table Mountain area hike. This one is the trail less traveled.
I didn't like the trail reports I've seen... they describe a much shorter hike
but driving many miles down a pot holed gravel road to get to the trailhead.

This hike starts at the Aldridge Butte Trailhead and goes over Cedar Mountain.
Once you get to the Table Mountain West kiosk, you travel North along the Pacific
Crest Trail (PCT) for several miles until you get to Three Corner Rock. There is
also a spur that I need to check out that is supposed to lead up to Table Mountain
from the North side. I'll post information about that route if/when I find it.

Information about getting to the Aldridge Trailhead.

I think this is Three Corner Rock. I got as close as 3-4 miles from it. This hike
was already going to run at least 16 miles and I figured adding another 6-8 miles to
it would be too much. Very nice, sunny day but HOT! Never saw a soul except for a
group of four mountain bikers on the PCT. I'm thinking that the traditional, much
shorter approach to TCR would be the way to go. Although this is a nice hike too.
Will return to do Table Mountain from the little known Northern access trail.

Started this hike by going over Cedar Mountain. The trail has improved some over
the years but it's still rare to see anyone up here. There's one spot where the
trail completely disappears and it's on a plateau so having a GPS is extremely
helpful. For a lot of this hike, you just stay on the ridge crest and head North.

Here's a view of Hamilton Mountain from a nice lunch spot viewpoint not far from
Cedar Mountain summit. There's actually no view at the top. It took me three
hours to go the four miles and 2,000' of elevation gain to get to the Table
Mountain west kiosk.

This is a much nicer approach to Table Mountain, IMHO. It only adds about a mile
to a Table Mountain climb but is much more scenic and remote versus slogging it
up the boring, washed out, pot holed forest roads from Bonneville.

Past the summit there is a nice view of Sacajawea and Papoose Rocks to the right.

Also a great view of Table Mountain from that same location.

It's a very mild incline from the Table Mountain west kiosk north along the PCT.
You eventually follow a ridge that stays more or less at 3,000' elevation. There
are some nice views of Mount Hood from up here. And NO PEOPLE!!!

The Columbia River looking east...

And Mount Adams.

Not to mention lots of colorful weeds.....

This is where I stopped for lunch. The view was magnificent! It was a perfect
bluebird day... the last free day I'll have for a while since I am taking John G's
anchor class tomorrow. It's supposed to start raining for the foreseeable future
after that....
