I-84, Exit 58 which is only accessible eastbound. Pretty much impossible
to not be able to find this trailhead. This is a fairly steep but not terribly
difficult 2.5 mile round trip hike that you can do in about an hour and a half.

Great views but no handrails and not for those who are afraid of heights or the
possibility of plunging to their death at any second.

It's still cold and rainy here in Portland but not so bad out Hood River way.
Mostly dry today with a lot of thick, low clouds early in the day but blue sky as the
morning progressed. Nice day and a nice series of hikes, overall.

Mitchell Point

Pretty frosty up here at 1,000' or so elevation. Don't usually see snow out
here in March.

Seems like I always forget something when I go out hiking. This time I forgot
my camera :(

Mitchell Point

At the top of Mitchell Point. Not much between us and the ledge and
it's a L-O-N-G drop!

Pretty cold and windy up here. We're literally in the clouds.

You can't really tell from this angle but this little rock perch is all
there is. One step left or right and it's an express trip down.

The view of Mitchell Point from the trailhead. The peak that's at the end
of the trail is behind this view and much more precarious than what you're seeing here.

Return to the Historic Columbia Highway Twin Tunnel Trail that runs from
Hood River, Oregon to Mosier. Details on how to get to the trailhead can be found
HERE

Tom McCall Point hike at Rowena Crest. I-84 eastbound, Mosier exit. Follow
Route 30 East towards The Dalles for about 6 miles. The well signed entrance
to Rowena Crest will be on the right. The trailhead is right behind the Rowena Crest
sign and on the right just before you get to the end of the road and viewpoint
overlooking the Columbia River.

The trail was "officially" closed although we ran into several people on the
way up. The trail was VERY muddy and since we had been hiking all day, it was
16:30 when we got there. Got within 1/4 mile of the peak but it was getting
dark so we headed back and will do this one another day.

This is a three mile round trip hike. Not terribly difficult although about
1,000' gain in about a mile and a half so not overly easy either. Always
disappointed when I can't do the full hike but the smart play was to turn back
when we did. It was pitch dark 15 minutes after we got back to the trailhead.

There was a really nice view of snow covered Mount Adams from up here.

Nice view from up here but getting dark. Time to head back. Saw some Coyote scat
so not a place to dawdle after dark....
