Detailed information on finding the Aldrich Butte trailhead is documented
HERE
If you want to take the longer, more traditional Pacific Crest Trail, that information is HERE
This is the kiosk at the base of Hearthbreak Ridge. As you can see, it's VERY steep!
This hike pretty much starts here although the next couple of pictures are
locations along the PCT before reaching Heartbreak Ridge. It's about 5 miles from
the trailhead at Shelli Lane and Carpenter. Many people park at Moffett Hot Springs
but that will add about 4 miles round trip to this hike. It's about 8 miles from
this kiosk to the Bonneville Dam trailhead.
It's a very steep incline. This picture was taken looking back at the kiosk maybe
100 feet up the trail.
This little campsite is about three miles from the Heartbreak Ridge kiosk.
About a mile up the Heartbreak Ridge trail you start seeing some scenery. It was
very overcast although a lot of the clouds were below us. The picture opportunities
today were disappointing but when you consider what a typical January day is like
out here, we were happy to be dry and seeing at least some sun.
The South face of Table Mountain
Perhaps someone will tell me if this monolith has a name...
I've heard that it's called Sacagawea Lookout.
There's a very interesting, historically accurate description of Sacagawea
HERE
This is as far as we went. It's another mile or so to the summit. We got back
to the trailhead 15 minutes before it got dark so we timed this one pretty well.
The way we hike, it would have taken at least another hour to get to the top.
Even with the clouds there were some magnificent views!
As you might expect at this time of year, there was quite a lot of blown-down
Almost back to the trailhead and it's nearly dusk.
Season Opener to Glenwood, WA.
